ISS Camera Earth

Earth & The View From Space

I got sent this video today and I really need to share it! It’s absolutely incredible. A video made from a time lapse camera Onboard the International Space Station. I don’t really need to say much more but I will! Please please please watch it in HD on the Vimeo website!

I just love so much about this!

Seeing the solar winds in the picture above hitting our atmosphere. Something to do with Plasma hitting our Ionosphere or Magnetosphere, I’m sure I’ll learn it properly one day but for now it can just look cool!

This screenshot blows my mind! Seeing lightning storms from space really shows the true power of them and also the beauty. Though it also highlights the amount of power we are using on this planet purely to light our streets.

Again the image above just highlights the amount of light we create on Earth. You can clearly see the major population centres here.

Another image showing our planet being hit by Solar Wind but also highlighting the importance of the atmosphere for sustaining life on this planet.

All the photos used in this video were captured by Ron Garan, Satoshi Furukawa and the crew of expeditions 28 & 29 onboard the International Space Station from August to October, 2011, from around an altitude of 350km.

Check the Vimeo page for more in depth information or have a look at this site.

If anyone knows of any more videos like this I’d love to see them.
